I just looked up how to be a Certified Registrar of Voters. The course is run by UCONN and costs $1600. Might be a barrier to entry...
Mindless of course, since anyone can register online with a driver's lic this is BS, but it's really just about intimidation. I know of one person who wanted to get in to speak with her local rep at an event that was RSVP only. She was told they didn't have room, and that she would be arrested if she tried to enter. Matt Blumethal routinely blocks people on X.
This is so unethical. They act above the law and then block the public from real discourse. Their policies are awful. So many terrible bills in the legislature right now, it's really disturbing.
One more followup, since I was unnecessarily upset and indignant. [Which will be a lesson for me, and I'm pretty knee-jerk about CT] After a bunch of digging, I consulted Grok. The course I referenced is specifically for people elected to 'Registrar of voters' and is funded by local taxes. Registrars have two years to complete it after being elected. Taking it as a private citizen requires permission.
That being said, it seems to be possible to facilitate people getting registered in CT without the certification as long as one follows certain rules. I'll find out what those are and do a post on them.
